The Hospital Council of Northern and Central California is a nonprofit hospital and health system trade association established in 1961, representing 190 hospitals in 50 of California’s 58 counties—from Kern County to the Oregon border. The Hospital Council’s membership includes hospitals and health systems ranging from small, rural hospitals to large, urban medical centers, representing more than 38,000 licensed beds.
How The Hospital Council Operates
Hospital Council services are delivered geographically through sections, each with specially designated staff. The structure provides members with opportunities to pursue common goals and efforts that may be county-specific and/or regional in nature. Section meetings are held on an ongoing basis to implement solutions for local issues. The Healthcare Foundation of Northern and Central California, the 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity supporting the Hospital Council, carries out a wide range of health care related programs including:
— Administering a three year, $6 million dollar grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation in support of the BEACON Collaborative which assists Bay Area Hospitals in achieving significant patient outcome improvements by accelerating implementation of high impact, evidence-based clinical and operational practices.
— The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)/ Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) Training Grants Program, launched by the Healthcare Laboratory Workforce Initiative, a statewide taskforce with a mission to support innovative and creative projects that will increase the number of licensed CLS and MLTs, or sustain training programs in the State of California.
— A scholarship program for students enrolled in accredited healthcare clinical education degree or credential programs leading to practice in California for the first time.
— An annual charity golf tournament to raise funds for future programs.
